History

The story at Dunlap began in 1897, with a prayer, and was started by Rev. L.P.Knox as a home for orphaned children in Hickory Grace, SC. In 1905, orphanage moved to the William H. Dunlap Orphanage in Brighton, TN. The Moffatt House (formerly the Teh Boys Cottage wias built in 1939 and housed 16 boys along with the house of parents. Hunter Hall (formerly The Girls Building was constructed in 1948 and housed 24 girls and the house parents. The James Lowry Pressly Fellowship Hall and kitchen was built in 1959 and adjoins Hunter Hall. In 1954, the director's home was built and an office was added in 1960. The McCalla House (formerly The Oaks was built in 1958 and 14 tots lived there with two house parents. In 1982, Dunlap was officeally reopened as Dunlap Retirement Center. We have turned the page and are caring for the edlerly in the same Christian way we cared for our orphaned children.
